SPRING CITY—The new Miss Spring City royalty was selected last Saturday after a short and simple noontime competition that even included lunch.

The 2021 Miss Spring City, Morgan Drew, crowned the new queen along with first, second and third attendants in the ballroom of the Spring City School Community Center.

The queen for 2022 is Kallie Mellor, daughter of Colby and Tammy Mellor and a junior at North Sanpete High School. She will receive a $500 college scholarship.

The first attendant is Makazsha Harward, daughter of Brandy Christensen and Justin Harward, while the second attendant is Elizabeth Allred, daughter of Scott and Teresa Allred. Matty Owen, daughter of Jonathan and Jennifer Owen, was selected as third attendant

The competition, which lasted less than an hour, included a talent performance by each girl, plus an interview with judges from the community. Additionally, each contestant submitted an essay describing a service project she would complete as queen.

Contestants and observers ate sandwiches, chips, cookies and brownies while waiting for the judges to reach their decisions.

Kallie explained that for her service project, she wants to link up the youth and senior citizens in Spring City. She plans to do three activities to bring the two groups together: a craft project such as painting flowerpots, a bingo night, and a gathering where youth and seniors tie quilts, which would be given to elderly people who need them.
