GUNNISON—The Gunnison Valley High Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter won a state contest at the 24th annual FFA competition hosted by Southern Utah University on Sept. 29, and has since been approved to attend a national convention.

The team competed in land, livestock, and horse and range competitions under the direction of FFA instructor Jesse Burrell.

After the team’s victory, Burrell requested approval from the South Sanpete School District Board to take the team to the 2016 National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis from Oct. 19-22.

The board approved the four-day trip, along with a donation of $100 per team member who attends.

At the convention, the team will participate in workshops and delegate public hearings, attend rodeos and concerts, along with an array of other events to help expand their knowledge of livestock, agronomy, agriculture and business.
