MORONI—The North Sanpete Middle School (NSMS) Theater Foundations class will present a one act comedy on Tuesday, Oct. 18, with two separate performances beginning at 5:30 and 6 p.m.

“Huey and the Bullies” was written by NSMS Theater Foundations teacher Kimberly Markworth, who says the play teaches students how to deal with bullying.

Markworth says students with all abilities are welcome into the class to help develop their creative talents.

“It’s wonderful to see shy students become more confident; students with disabilities receive recognition and praise for what they can do well; and students who do not like school, become more excited to come,” she said.

Markworth has directed 40 productions throughout her 19-year career as a NSMS teacher. She has written several of the plays and says by doing so she can better meet the needs of her students while also saving the school money.

There is no entry cost and everyone is invited to attend the performances.

After the theatrical production is complete, Markworth says students will move on to develop public speaking skills, discover the art of storytelling, learn performance gestures through pantomime, develop formal discussion skills through debate and perform stand-up comedy, improvisational acting and puppetry.
