Gunnison Valley beats South Summit, then falls by two at Millard
GUNNISON — The Gunnison Valley boys basketball team continued a strong stretch of play last week, defeating South Summit before narrowly falling on the road against Millard.
Gunnison Valley beat South Summit 63-57 on Wednesday, earning its seventh win in the last eight games. Talan Dyreng led the Bulldogs with 14 points and six rebounds, while Daxton Knudsen added eight points and pulled down 13 rebounds. The victory improved Gunnison Valley’s overall record to 11-4 at the time and marked South Summit’s first region loss of the season.
Two days later, Gunnison Valley traveled to Fillmore and lost a 70-68 region game to Millard on Friday, Jan. 16. The Bulldogs led after the first and second quarters and entered the fourth quarter up by two, but Millard outscored Gunnison Valley 21-14 in the final period to secure the win.
Dyreng scored 19 points for Gunnison Valley in the loss, while Knudsen finished with 21 points and 15 rebounds. The Bulldogs totaled 39 rebounds and 13 assists as a team in the game.
The loss dropped Gunnison Valley to 11-5 overall. The Bulldogs next prepare to face North Sevier in 2A Region 15 play, while Millard improved to 9-7 and continued its league schedule.
