Manti takes region drill championship

Sanpete County drill teams turned in solid performances at their respective region competitions earlier this month, led by a region championship from Manti and podium finishes by Gunnison Valley.
Manti’s drill team captured the Region 13 championship in 3A competition at Union High in Roosevelt on Jan. 16, placing first overall across all four military dance show results categories. The Templars finished ahead of Union, Emery and Carbon to secure the region title.
North Sanpete also competed in Region 13 and finished fifth overall. The Hawks placed behind Manti, Union, Emery and Carbon in each of the four scored categories at the region event.
In 2A competition, Gunnison Valley represented Sanpete County at the Region 15 meet on Jan. 15. The Bulldogs finished third in two of the four overall results columns and fourth in the other two, placing behind Duchesne and South Summit while competing against Millard, North Summit and North Sevier.
Region competitions determine seeding and qualification heading into the postseason, with teams now preparing for the state drill championships next week in Orem.
