North Sanpete girls extend win streak with victories over Carbon, Emery

MT. PLEASANT — The North Sanpete girls basketball team continued its strong run last week with back-to-back Region 13 wins, defeating Carbon 55–44 on the road Tuesday, Jan. 13, before holding off Emery 60–54 at home Thursday, Jan. 15.
North Sanpete controlled the tempo against Carbon in Price, building a narrow lead early and extending it through the middle quarters. The Hawks led 13–12 after the first quarter, then widened the margin with a 16–11 second quarter to take a 29–23 halftime advantage. North Sanpete added another eight points to the lead in the third quarter and held Carbon to nine points in the fourth to secure the 11-point win.
The victory improved North Sanpete’s record to 12–5 at the time and set up a home matchup with Emery two nights later.
Against Emery, North Sanpete erased the memory of an earlier loss in the season by edging the Spartans 60–54 to extend its winning streak to seven games. The Hawks maintained control late and closed out the game to improve to 13–5 on the season.
Emery received balanced production in the loss, led by Elly Stilson, who scored 11 points on 83 percent shooting and added three steals. Megan Stilson finished with 14 points for the Spartans. Emery’s loss snapped a three-game winning streak and dropped the Spartans to 9–7.
The two wins continued a stretch of consistent play for North Sanpete as the Hawks prepared for upcoming region matchups, including a rivalry game against Manti.
