MT. PLEASANT—The Hawks continue to let the good times roll.
The North Sanpete boys’ basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a dominating win over Maeser Prep, 63-25, last Tuesday. The Hawks led from start to finish.
North Sanpete shared the scoring as senior Landon Bowles led all scorers with 20 points, most of which came from transition layups from his five steals. Owing to senior Morgan Bowles 16 points, the Bowles brothers alone outscored the Lions, 36-25. Senior Ty Morley finished with 14 points, and senior Andy Mower put in 10 points. The team shot a combined 7 of 9 from the free throw line.
The Hawks were a nightmare for the Lions to deal with defensively. The team combined for an astounding 19 steals.
Already up by 14 points midway through the second quarter, North Sanpete put away the game effectively for good by closing out the half on a 19-2 run, much of which was scored off turnovers. In the second half, the onslaught continued as North Sanpete led by as much as 41 points before cooling off in the fourth quarter.
North Sanpete’s 2-0 start is the third consecutive 2-0 start for the program. They’ll be headed north for the Bear River Winter Classic this week. The Hawks have struggled at the classic in the last few years, losing their last four games; but their slate this year looks ripe for a 5-0 start as they’ll take on Ben Lomond, Altamont and UMA-Camp Williams, all of whom have not won yet this season.
