NORTH SANPETE HIGH SCHOOL
Students will attend a Zero Fatalities Assembly this Friday, Feb. 10 at 2:10 p.m. Local resident Connie Hatch will share her story of losing family members in a car crash and will be joined by members of Zero Fatalities Utah. Sterling Scholar Seth Swapp organized this assembly.
Student body officers will kick off their annual food drive on Wednesday, Feb. 8
FAIRVIEW ELEMENTARY
The PTA is sponsoring a parent book club beginning Wednesday, Feb. 8 at 1:30 p.m. in the school library. The book club will meet every Wednesday. The current book for discussion is “How To Talk So Kids Will Listen And Listen So Kids Will Talk.”
MORONI ELEMENTARY
Parent-teacher conferences will be held this week on Wednesday, Feb. 8 and Thursday, Feb. 9. Last names A-L are scheduled from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Students with last names beginning M-Z have meetings from 4 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. All kindergarten conferences are by appointment only.
EPHRAIM MIDDLE SCHOOL
There will be a dance for seventh and eighth-grade students this Friday, Feb. 10, from 6-8 p.m. in the school commons. A bus will pick up Sterling students at the church at 5:30 p.m. and Manti students at the elementary school at 5:45 p.m. The bus will return students to these locations after the dance. Sixth graders will have an afternoon dance at the school that same day. Students must dress up—ties and collared shirts for boys and modest dresses covering the shoulders for girls.
Parent-teacher conferences are next week, Thursday, Feb. 16 and Friday, Feb. 17. Students will be dismissed Thursday at 11:35 a.m., and there is no school for students on Friday. Conferences run from 3-7 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday morning in an open format.
There will be an opera assembly with the Bastien & Bastien Opera by Jerry Dahl next Tuesday, Feb.14, at 9:30 a.m.
MANTI HIGH SCHOOL
Student body officers at Manti High are sponsoring a spaghetti dinner and auction on Thursday, Feb. 9 to raise funds for a new school mascot. Tickets at the door for the event, which will run from 6 to 9 p.m., are $7. There will be several items for silent auction along with numerous items which will be auctioned live.
The theater group will perform its spring play “The Schwa Was Here” next Monday, Feb. 13 to Thursday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. The play is about the friendship between two middle school boys, one of whom, Calvin Schwa, is unnoticed by those around him. Admission is $3.
Boys State and Girls State
Junior students with a 3.0 GPA or higher who are interested in Boys State or Girls State can sign up in the counseling office. Interviews will be held on Friday, Feb. 10 about 1 p.m. right after school. If students are involved with the basketball game that day or have a school activity that conflicts they can schedule alternative dates. Girls State runs June 5-10 and Boys State runs June 12-16 at Weber State University.
GUNNISON VALLEY MIDDLE SCHOOL
The school held an assembly to honor the PTA Reflections contest winners on Monday, Feb. 6.
GUNNISON VALLEY ELEMENTARY
Parent-teacher conference will be held on Friday, Feb.10. The school is asking parents to make sure to use the drop-off lane and not drop off or pick up children in the bus zone. Many children are also walking between the buses to get to parents who are parked on the street.
EPHRAIM ELEMENTARY
The PTA is having lots of fun with a food-themed teacher appreciation this week. As part of the celebration, teachers get to enjoy a yogurt parfait bar, popcorn and soda, donuts and muffins and cookies and milk. On Friday, the teachers will be honored at a special “Amore” luncheon.
