MT. PLEASANT—Sanpete Valley Hospital, an Intermountain Healthcare facility, is one of the top critical-access hospitals in the nation, according to the Chartis Center for Rural Health.

The rankings were announced recently by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA). An awards ceremony will be held during NRHA’s Critical Access Hospital Conference in September in Kansas City, Missouri.
Critical access hospitals (CAHs) provide access to high-quality healthcare in rural communities. They are considered vital for ensuring the health of communities that may not have access to larger facilities.
The honor measures overall performance based on a composite rating from eight indices of strength: inpatient market share, outpatient mar- ket share, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost, charge and finance.
“Sanpete Valley Hospital is proud of the efforts of the physicians and staff who have contributed to our hospital achieving this designation,” Aaron Wood, CEO of Sanpete Valley, said.
“We have all sorts of metrics that we are proud of, including quality, caregiver engagement and financial, but we are most excited that our patients, the people whom we are privileged to care for every day, view (and now rank) us among the top 1 percent of critical access hospitals in the entire country.”
