EPHRAIM—The women’s basketball team of Snow College cruised to a 25-point home-game victory and then suffered a four-point home loss last week.
On Thursday, Feb. 1, the Lady Badgers won Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) 69-44 and lost 57-53 against Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) on Saturday, Feb. 3.
Thursday’s game started out with a three-pointer for CNCC.
The Lady Badgers soon took the lead with a jumper by Megan Carr and a layup by Harley Hansen.
The teams took turns taking the lead until the middle of the second quarter, when Snow’s Paige Farnsworth scored a three-pointer. After that, the Lady Badgers took the lead and ran with it to the 69-44 victory.
This is the second time Snow has beat CNCC this season.
Three Snow girls contributed points in double digits. Carr led Snow College with 20 points, followed by Hansen with 17 and Kayla Hugie with 13.
In Saturday’s game against SLCC, Snow started out strong and kept the lead all through the second quarter. At halftime, the Lady Badgers were up by four points.
In the third quarter, the teams juggled the lead until SLCC pushed ahead by seven at the end of the quarter and kept the lead all the way to the 57-53 finish.
“The third quarter was a large part of the turnout of the game. SLCC did a good job at capitalizing on our mistakes, and that’s what good teams do,” said Mike Russell, Snow’s head coach.
Lourdes Gonzalez led the Lady Badgers in double figures, contributing 15 points to the score, and Jazmin Chavez put in 13 points.
The Lady Badgers lost to SLCC earlier in the season and face them again on Saturday in Salt Lake City.
“You have to play strong the entire game to beat them, Salt Lake. We need to address and fix a few things but think we have a great shot at beating them next week,” said Russell.
The Lady Badgers will battle in Price today against Utah State University–Eastern.
