Lady Bulldogs learn, but fall to ALA, 46-37

SPANISH FORK—The Lady Bulldogs are learning as they go, and last week proved to be another rocky episode.

The Gunnison girls’ basketball team fell on the road against American Leadership Academy, 46-37, last Tuesday. The loss took the Lady Bulldogs to 1-2 on the season.

Coach Melissa Sorensen described her team as something of a work in progress. “The players will work hard no matter what situation we face,” Sorensen said. “Everyone is still learning roles, many of which are different than roles they played in the past.”

The Lady Bulldogs got out to a slow start against the Eagles, going behind 14-4 at the end of the first quarter, but they caught up somewhat as they whittled ALA’s lead down to four at the half. ALA slowly inched away in the second half for the win.

Senior Raven Pickett led the Bulldogs with 14 points, while junior Rilee Dyreng contributed 12 points.

Gunnison’s season continues on the road this Tuesday with a tough test against a red-hot offense at Draper APA. They’ll then return home on Thursday to take on North Sanpete.
