MT. PLEASANT—Lady Hawks get easy win over Delta, then narrowly lose a game to Emery.
After cruising to a 19-1 win over Delta last Tuesday, North Sanpete softball fell to 9-15 overall and 4-3 in Region 14, tying for second with Union and a half-game ahead of Juab, after Emery handed them a 1-0 loss last Thursday. The Lady Hawks cemented their first season under .500 since 2017.

North Sanpete began the week with a non-region 7-6 loss to Grand County, a game that they had in hand, 6-1, at the end of the fifth inning before Grand pulled off six runs over the last two innings to steal the win away. Junior Lucy Oldroyd hit a two-RBI home run in the fifth inning. Sophomore Paeton Johnson impressively tossed 11 strikeouts with eight hits.
The winless Delta Rabbits proved to be short work for the Lady Hawks as they piled on nine runs in the first inning and had the game over by the third inning. Oldroyd and senior Heather Howarth both hit home runs. Howarth and senior Jada Bailey led the team with four RBI each. Howarth also pitched the whole game, throwing two strikeouts.
Against Emery, both teams struggled to make anything happen from the plate, combining for all of eight hits in the entire game. Emery got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third inning, and it was all they needed. Johnson was solid again from the mound, throwing six strikeouts and allowing four hits.
The Lady Hawks finished region play with a decisive game last Monday against Juab to determine final region standings. They’ll travel to face Gunnison on Tuesday, then await playoff seeding next week.
