MT. PLEASANT—Runs at the start and end of the game doomed the North Sanpete girls’ basketball team against Delta.
The Lady Hawks lost 40-21 on Senior Night, which marked center Melissa Murillo’s final regular-season game.
The Lady Rabbits (16-5, 11-1 Region 14), the region champions, were fueled by a 7-0 burst to start the game and a 10-0 run over a seven-minute stretch from the third quarter to the start of the fourth quarter.
North Sanpete (4-13, 4-8) trailed just 17-11 at halftime, recovering some after that seven-point deficit. And it was just 19-13 in the third quarter.
But then Delta went on its biggest run of the game to lead 29-13.
Sophomore point guard Kortley Cook led the Lady Hawks with 10 points, according to the Deseret News.
North Sanpete Coach Taylor Christensen did not return a request for comments.
For winning three of its last five games, the Lady Hawks earned a home game in the 3A Championships. They will play Grand County (3-13) at 7 p.m. tonight at North Sanpete High School.
