OREM—State wrestling finals for 2A and 3A have come and gone, and a few local student-athletes enjoyed some success.

The tournament occurred the weekend of Feb. 11 in Orem. 29 wrestlers from Gunnison, Manti, and North Sanpete took part in the competition, competing against 34 other schools in Utah.

As a team, North Sanpete place 12th in 3A standings with a combined score of 53. Gunnison took 12th in 2A standings with a combined score of 48, while Manti placed 14th with a combined score of 13.

The Hawks were led by the efforts of senior Hootchy Brewer, who took second place in the 220-weight class. Senior Gatlin Peterson, also for North Sanpete, took fifth in the 145-weight class.

For Gunnison, senior Chayton Jacobson took second place in the 132-weight class. Junior Alex Holder took fourth place in the 138-weight class.

Later that week, on Wednesday, Feb. 15, Brewer and his teammate, Junior Keegan Eliason, went on to compete in the Super State Competition, pitting wrestlers from all five school classifications in Utah against each other. Brewer finished third in the 220-weight class, and Eliason was defeated in the lone match of the 182-weight class.
