Manti asks residents to conserve water during repairs to culinary well pump

MANTI—Manti City leaders are requesting that residents conserve culinary water until city employees can repair a malfunctioning well.

Cory Hatch, the city’s water superintendent, says the well pump malfunctioned on Saturday, April 1, and that although repairs are under way, Manti’s culinary water supply has been diminished.

The water itself, however, is fine.

“It’s not a quality problem,” Hatch said. “It’s a quantity problem.”

Hatch says the repair timeline is still undetermined. Until those repairs are completed, the town’s culinary water supply will come from two tanks located east of town, which are filling slowly from early runoff.

“The water we have coming out of the canyon is all we have for now,” Hatch said. “This time of year it doesn’t flow fast. They’re working on the problem now, so we are hoping this doesn’t last very long.

“We asked for conservation from Manti residents trying to be proactive about the situation, before a real shortage happens.”
