The Manti boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in the Region Championships last week and both teams ran extremely well.
The girls’ team was crowned the Region 14 cross country champions and the boys’ team placed second, according to Coach Brandon Norris. The Templars competed at the region meet in Roosevelt on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
Both teams were amazing, Norris said.
The Lady Templars outran the field behind a stellar performance by Sadie Nielson, who won the individual title this year by turning in a time of 18:56, the fastest time ever ran by a Manti girl.
Other Manti girls medaled as well, Norris said. Keltsy Fowles took 4th; Bella Knudsen 8th; Helen Grover 9th; and Aireal Mower 12th. Cami Merrill and Kaylee Gowan also ran great and were key contributors to the girls’ championship, Norris said.
The boys placed second at region with four boys medaling. The boys’ top finisher was Tyler Taggart, placing 3rd overall with a very fast time of 16:14. Also medaling were Kyle Steinfeldt 7th; Trevor Taggart 9th; and Hunter Powell 11th.
Coach Norris wishes both teams good luck at State.
The North Sanpete girls’ team came in second at region and the Hawks’ boys came in third overall.
