The Manti High School speech and debate team celebrates their win in the Central Utah Speech and Debate Circuit, a series of four meets in Sanpete and surrounding counties. The team received the trophy following the final meet at Richfield High School.

RICHFIELD—The Manti High speech and debate team recently took first place in the Central Utah Speech and Debate Circuit, a series of four meets attracting competitors from high schools in Carbon, Emery, Sanpete, and Sevier counties.

At each meet, speakers and debaters receive points that add up to the school’s point total for the event. At the end of the circuit, the judges add up the points earned in the four meets to determine the winner of the circuit.

At the final meet, held at Richfield High School, Alex Hansen who took first place in dramatic interpretation; Brexton Jensen earned first place in national extemporaneous speaking; Jannah Abdulkarim finished in second place in foreign extemporaneous speaking; and Darcy Hess who finished third in foreign extemporaneous speaking.

The team now moves on to the regional tournament at Delta High School on March 5 with 27 students competing.
