Messenger gearing up for

countywide newspaper,

special magazine next week

MANTI—The Sanpete Messenger will be mailed to every household and business in the county next week and will include a special edition of Celebrating the Season, the Messenger’s traditional Christmas magazine.

The newspaper will go to press Monday, so the deadline for all society notices and other submissions has been moved up to Thursday at 5 p.m.

It will take the staff all day Tuesday to insert the magazine and advertising circulars in 10,000 papers. The paper will go to post offices Tuesday night and be delivered to postal customers Wednesday morning, the day before Thanksgiving.

“We’re planning a stellar newspaper with several important stories and some wonderful features,” publisher Suzanne Dean said. “And everybody in the county will have the whole Thanksgiving weekend with their families to read and enjoy it.”

The theme of the magazine this year is “The Best of Celebrating the Season.” The Messenger started the magazine in 2005 (originally it was called the “Holiday Shopping Guide”) and published it every year up to 2016, except 2014. That’s 11 magazines.

For each magazine, the staff has selected a theme and then found individuals or families in a cross-section of towns exemplifying the theme. Over the 11 issues, Celebrating the Season has carried 103 features about everything from how to put on a Christmas party to poignant stories about community generosity during the holidays.

The theme in 2017 is the “Best of Celebrating the Season.” This year’s magazine will feature nine stories selected by the staff as the “best” published over the years.

Each story will include a sidebar labeled “Where are they now” telling what has happened to the people or organizations featured since the story first ran.

Like past issues, the magazine will also offer a comprehensive calendar of Christmas activities in the county, holiday recipes and a list of ways you can help others over the holidays.
