Miss Moroni Pageant sets new procedure

MORONI—Finding a willing individual to oversee the Miss Moroni Pageant became a challenging task this year, according to Mayor Paul Bailey.

In an April city council meeting, it was decided that the mayor, councilmember Jennifer Lamb and the 2020 Miss Moroni Olivia Larsen would work together to oversee the selection of the new 2021 royalty.

It was decided that an application process along with interviews would take place of the traditional on-stage pageant. The candidates would be asked to submit an application about themselves, including information about their education, scholastic/career ambitions, accomplishments, interesting facts and a legacy of what they wanted the community to remember them for.

Along with the application, they would be required to write an essay explaining why they would be an excellent choice to represent Moroni with the title of Miss Moroni.

Three contestants applied for the position and each one of them was interviewed by four Moroni community members.

Chosen to reign over the next year was the queen, Phaedra Lamb, daughter of Ken and Jennifer Lamb. Her attendants are Shaylee Wilkey, daughter of Josh and Syndi Wilkey, and Sydney Walker, daughter of Jake and Leslie Walker.

During her reign, the queen, along with the support of her attendants, will plan, develop and give leadership to others through a service project that will benefit the community. After a plan is in place, the queen will make arrangements to be added to the city council agenda before proceeding with the activity.
