MANTI—Ashtyn Childs, Miss Sanpete for 2021, visited with Sanpete County commissioners July 19 and thanked them for their support during her rein, which will end the first week in August when a new queen is chosen.

Astyn Childs, Miss Sanpete for 2021, visits with the Sanpete County commissioners Reed Hatch (left), Scott Bartholomew and Ed Sunderland at their July 19 meeting.

Childs, daughter of Gary and Anne Childs of Centerfield, told commissioners serving as Miss Sanpete had been “the best experience of my life.”

She was recognized for having the top interview among non-finalists for Miss Utah. “That was so awesome. I didn’t think I would walk away with something like that,” she said.

Her platform was “Be uniquely you.” During the year, she talked about the insecurities she felt as a teenager after being diagnosed with Graves Disease and encouraged others to maintain self esteem in the face of their own trials.

Childs said her mother was on the Miss Gunnison Valley pageant committee when she was growing up. “I’ve been dreaming abut being Miss Sanpete since I was a little girl,” she said. “It was just a dream to have the crown put on my head.”
