North Sanpete falls 13-0 to Juab, will face Cedar in rematch for first round of playoffs

MT. PLEASANT—North Sanpete High School's football team held region-leading Juab scoreless in three of four quarters Wednesday, Oct. 14, but the Hawks couldn't find the end zone in a 13-0 loss to the Wasps in their regular-season finale.

North Sanpete's defense limited Juab to two second-quarter touchdowns and kept the Wasps off the scoreboard throughout the second half. However, the Hawks were unable to turn 226 yards of total offense into points against the undefeated 3A South region champions.

Senior Chaetton Osborne led North Sanpete's rushing attack, carrying the ball 16 times for 95 yards, averaging 5.9 yards per carry. His performance included a 28-yard run, the team's longest of the contest.

Senior Trevor Mann added 74 rushing yards on 20 carries, while quarterback Luke Lee contributed 11 yards on four attempts.

The Hawks finished with 180 rushing yards on 40 carries, matching Juab's rushing total for the game.

North Sanpete struggled to establish its passing attack, with Lee completing six of 16 attempts for 46 yards and one interception.

Milo Hendry recorded the Hawks' longest reception of the night, a 21-yard catch. Mann added an 11-yard reception, while Morgan Bailey caught a pass for 8 yards. Freshman Trace Dalene contributed a 4-yard reception, and Osborne caught two passes.

Despite the offensive struggles, North Sanpete's defense kept the game within reach.

Mckray Beesley intercepted a Juab pass, while Wyatt Hobush helped lead the defensive effort. Jesse Nuttall recorded three tackles for loss, and Trexon Madsen added two, according to MaxPreps statistics.

The Hawks finished with six tackles for loss and held Juab scoreless in the first, third and fourth quarters.

Juab scored both touchdowns late in the second quarter. Grady Ballow broke the scoreless tie with a 5-yard touchdown run with 3:24 remaining before halftime.

Price Armstrong added a 10-yard touchdown run less than two minutes later, giving the Wasps a 13-0 advantage that held through the remainder of the game.

North Sanpete finished the regular season with a 6-4 overall record and a 3-3 mark in 3A South region play.

The Hawks recorded region victories over Canyon View, Carbon and rival Manti during the season, including a 36-21 win over the Templars on Oct. 1.

North Sanpete now turns its attention to the 3A state football playoffs, where the Hawks earned the No. 8 seed and a home game in the opening round.

The Hawks will host No. 9 Cedar on Friday, Oct. 23, at 6 p.m. in Mt. Pleasant.

The playoff contest will be a rematch of the teams' Sept. 18 regular-season meeting, which Cedar won. North Sanpete will have an opportunity to reverse that result as the Hawks begin postseason competition.
