SPANISH FORK—The North Sanpete softball team ran out of steam, getting knocked out of the state playoffs last week.
The Lady Hawks (15-11) began their 12-1 loss to Carbon in the same afternoon that they beat Morgan 11-6. Graciee Christiansen pitched in both games of the 2021 UHSAA/Mountain America Credit Union 3A State Softball Championships, which were played Thursday, May 13 at the Spanish Fork Softball Complex.
Against Carbon, seventh-seeded North Sanpete committed four errors and mustered just one hit as the Dinos scored five runs in the first and fifth innings apiece and forced the mercy rule.
Statistics for the Lady Hawks against Carbon were not available on MaxPreps or the Deseret News.
In North Sanpete’s 11-6 win over Morgan, the Lady Hawks scored seven runs in the third inning alone after being down 6-0 going into the bottom of inning. North Sanpete added two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings.
Heather Howarth continued a relatively impressive recent run on the mound, getting seven strikeouts in just 5.1 innings.
Offensively, freshman Indigo North had three runs batted in and a home run. Four players each got two RBIs. Christiansen went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Sophomore Kady Cook also scored two runs.
