North Sanpete’s Johnson leads wins over Richfield, Carbon

MT. PLEASANT—Four home runs from four North Sanpete players made the difference against Carbon on Friday, May 1, as the Lady Hawks defeated the Lady Dinos 13-0 on the diamond.
The Lady Hawks scored five runs in the first inning and never slowed down, adding three runs in the second and five more in the third to end the game early.
Kaecee Johnson led North Sanpete at the plate and in the circle. The junior went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and four RBIs, while also tossing five shutout innings, allowing two hits and striking out six to earn the win. Halie Eliason powered the offense with a home run, finishing 1-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs. Afton Cook added another long ball, going 1-for-1 with two runs, while Mylee Cook contributed a run and two stolen bases.
North Sanpete’s offense produced eight hits and four home runs in the victory.
In the circle, Johnson set the tone early as the Hawks limited the Dinos to two hits and no runs.
The win pushed North Sanpete to 21-3 on the season.
Lady Hawks blank Richfield on the road
Johnson led North Sanpete in the circle and at the plate in a 6-0 shutout victory over 3A Region 13 foe Richfield on Tuesday, April 28.
She went the distance, tossing a complete-game two-hitter over seven innings. She did not allow a run or a walk, struck out 12 and faced 23 batters to pick up the win and post a 0.00 ERA for the outing. The right-hander allowed only two singles.
At the plate, Johnson went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, finishing with a .500 batting average, a .750 slugging percentage and a 1.250 OPS.
Aydree Jacobson also turned in a 2-for-4 day, scoring twice and legging out a triple for a team-best 1.500 OPS. Makinley Burnside chipped in a 1-for-3 effort, scoring a run and stealing a base. McKenzie Madsen added a hit and a run scored, while Marley Johnson recorded a hit and drove in a run. Halie Eliason also singled, and Mylee Cook picked up an RBI.
As a team, North Sanpete hit .276, collecting eight hits, two doubles and a triple while driving in three runs. The Lady Hawks posted a .267 on-base percentage and a .414 slugging percentage for a .681 OPS.
Defensively, North Sanpete fielded at a .957 clip with one error across 23 chances and turned one double play. Rylee Stewart anchored the defense with 14 putouts on 14 chances for a perfect fielding percentage. Aydree Jacobson, Autumn Oldroyd, Kaecee Johnson and Mylee Cook also finished with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Richfield was limited to two hits on the day, both singles, with Jerzy Moon and Abby Pedersen each reaching safely. Richfield hit .091 as a team and did not draw a walk.
Results for North Sanpete’s May 5 game against Juab were not available by press time.
