EPHRAIM—In 1870, Ephraim was 86 percent Scandinavian. Among the Scandinavian residents were Marge Bennion, Mads Christensen, Maren Jensdatter and Anna Cajsa Jansdotter.

Descendents of these pioneers are invited to a gathering on Saturday, May 28 at noon in the Ephraim Pioneer Cemetery, located 1.5 miles north of Ephraim city limits on the west side of U.S. 89.

The date is the Saturday before Memorial Day and is during the Scandinavian Heritage Festival in Ephraim.

Bring a picnic lunch and blanket or folding chairs to the “Eat and Greet.” Drinks and dessert will be provided.

The event will start with a game of “Relatives Around Me” on the Family Tree app. Please download the app in advance of the gathering.

Next, descendants will highlight the lives of Mads Christensen, Maren Jensdatter (KWB-B27J) and Anna Cajsa Jansdotter (KWVS-FG6). The numbers in parentheses are Family Search PID (personal identification) numbers.

Finally, the gathering will celebrate new headstones that one descendant family placed in the Pioneer Cemetery last fall after the original markers went missing.

            For information, call 801-298-1458.
