GUNNISON—Scores of people came out to tour the new Proteor facility in Gunnison on Monday afternoon.

The open house and tour of Proteor USA’s new facility in a 100,000-square-foot multi-story building located at the east end of the Gunnison Industrial Park showed off expansive production capabilities as well as comfortable, modern office spaces.

Proteor USA is the American branch of a global prosthetics company with its main headquarters located in Dijon, France.

“This facility marks a new chapter in Proteor’s continued pursuit of excellence, innovation, and leadership in the field of orthotics and prosthetics,” said Steven Health, director of advanced composites engineering and manufacturing.

“This new facility will enable us to continue to develop groundbreaking solutions that enhance mobility and improve lives. Our vision is not only to lead the industry but to inspire and support the communities that help make our work possible.”

“I am so pleased we were able to have them here to expand their business,” said Gunnison Mayor Lori Nay. “I am so impressed with the executive team and all they bring. They are really taking off in an extraordinary way, and we are so proud to have them here in Gunnison.”

The company held a ribbon-cutting at 2 p.m. with leaders from Proteor and local government. At 4 p.m., the public started pouring in to tour the building and its array of production equipment.

The tour showed attendees a multitude of specialty areas devoted to 3D printing, computer-aided drafting, product testing, climate control, shipping, inventory storage and much more.

According to tour guides, the facility will employ about 80 workers in designing, building and testing the Proteor product line. The company currently ships out more than 100 prosthetics daily to destinations all over the globe.
