ATLANTA—Seven Manti High and North Sanpete High students competed with 9,380 outstanding high school students from across the country during the 2016 Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) National Leadership Conference from June 28 to July 3 in Atlanta, Ga.
Seniors Kyler Nelson and Hyrum Malone, who graduated last year, competed for Manti High and placed 10th in the network design team competition. Kjerstin Birch, junior, competed in public speaking.
Representing North Sanpete High were Jackson Blackhurt, Nicole Day, Jordan Hope and Jace Macgoo, all junior’s.
Jackson and Nicole competed in web design, while Jace and Jordan competed in video and gaming Production. Although none of the students placed this year, business teacher Andre Rainey said the students represented the school well.
North Sanpete went home with “a new fire,” Rainey said, and the team vowed to make the 2016-17 FBLA team the best North Sanpete has ever seen.
“We look forward to next year’s competition,” Rainey said. “Hopefully we’ll take more great students to nationals.”
During the course of their stay, students participated in interactive workshops, viewed exhibits and heard from motivational speakers.
The event was part of a comprehensive program of state and national competitions sponsored by Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL), Inc., which recognizes and rewards excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas.
