MT. PLEASANT—The second annual Sanpete County Home & Garden Show is happening a week from now and promises to build on the success of the inaugural show last year.

Sponsored by the Sanpete County Chamber of Commerce, the show at Contoy Arena at 995 W. 1000 South in Mt. Pleasant, is Friday April 25 from 5-8 p.m., and Saturday April 26 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

“It should be just a lot of fun,” said organizer Mindy Hardy, whose husband, Shad Hardy, owns Accurate Mobile Mix Concrete, one of the event’s sponsors. “We want it to be fun and give people ideas and be helpful.”

The event will feature 30 or more vendors, both local and from other parts of Utah, food trucks, raffles, prize giveaways, and workshops to help home-and-gardening do-it-yourselfers.

“We’re building definitely on what we learned [last year],” Hardy said. “We have more vendors, more giveaways. We’re adding Friday, that’s new this year.”

And the addition of Friday isn’t just for availability; it’s for a good cause.

“I hope we can raise some good funds for that family. They’ve got a lot stacked against them, so we just want to try and help,” Hardy said.

The evening will feature live entertainment by the Manti High School Rock Band, a Taiko drumming group and a bit of line-dancing instruction. There will also be a catered meal, with all proceeds going to the Carney family.

In addition, the Crazy Scone Food Truck will donate its proceeds from the evening. And the proceeds of a raffle of goods and services donated by local businesses will also go to the Carney family, along with independent donations by attendees.

“Everybody’s been so generous,” Hardy said.

Saturday will feature vendors, who will answer questions, teach workshops and give away some goodies of their own. Workshops will include things like “Water-wise Landscaping,” gardening, herbs, essential oils and some “home-improvement things,” Hardy says.

There will be a drawing, as well as “swag bags” to the first 150 people through the door Saturday morning.

Entry to the event is free, and everyone’s invited.

Hardy said preparations are going well. “We have a lot of really great vendors this year,” she said.

She said the event drew about 180 attendees last year, when it was held at the Greenwood Student Center on the Snow College campus after only about six weeks of planning. “I thought that was pretty good for the first year,” she said.

She hopes this year, with the new location at Contoy Arena and more effort going into organization, the Chamber of Commrce will see an even bigger payoff.

“We just put more time into it,” she said of this year’s show. “We started scheduling clear back in February. We’ve been working on it a lot longer, putting more into it this time.”

Doing so wasn’t just for pulling off a good show this year, but to plant the seeds (pardon home-and-garden pun) of a new Sanpete County tradition.

“Our goal is to make it educational, fun, help support local business and, you know, just kind of make it a community gathering to look forward to each year in preparation for springtime and gardening and all of that.”
