Sanpete walk-bike trail needs support from citizens, cities
By Cycle Sanpete Team
For the past four years, Cycle Sanpete has been advocating for a 47-mile multi-use path (bike, walk, skate) extending from Fairview all the way down to Centerfield, and we're excited to share some incredible news. Thanks to a RAISE grant, a two-year feasibility study and extensive community engagement process was completed for the so-called "Spine" trail.
(RAISE stands for Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity. The grant program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation, funds transportation projects with significant local or regional impact.)
Even better, the State of Utah has officially approved the trail as part of the Utah Trail Network, a statewide system of trails eligible for state funding.
Our route is on the Utah Department of Transportation master transportation plan website. See the trail at: gis.udot.utah.gov/utn-viewer.
This is a monumental milestone, and we couldn't be more grateful for everyone's support.
UDOT approached Manti and Ephraim cities in the spring of 2026 about the first phase of the network. If all goes well, construction on the Manti-to-Ephraim section could begin as soon as fall of 2027. UDOT offered $13 million for the construction costs of the trail.
But now we need your help.
Please reach out to your local elected officials and let them know how excited you are about having a safe place for families to ride bikes, walk, and recreate both within our communities and between neighboring towns. Your voice can help move this project forward.
The next Manti City Council meeting is Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m. The public comment period is at the end of the meeting.
The next scheduled Ephraim City Council meeting is on Wednesday, October 21 at 6 p.m. (Public comments are held at the beginning, or you can call in advance to schedule time on the agenda.)
