UDOT should be commended on installation of prominent overhead signage, and especially the new painted crosswalks with night lighting in Manti and Gunnison. The goal of the upgrades is helping school children cross safely. But the devices don’t go far enough. Two of them are simply glorified school speed-limit signs. What about the rest of us who feel we’re taking our lives in our hands when we try to cross the highway, including at intersections?

August 2, 1776… We are coming upon a notable anniversary this weekend.
When natural disasters leave destruction in their wake, they tend to reveal the compassion, resilience and generosity of those who call a community home.
It is my hope that during this 250th anniversary of that day, we take a few moments in reflection, prayer and reverence for the Declaration of Independence. Taking some time to read it over and relearn its principles of Liberty.

We’ve been blessed to have 250 years of freedom in our country! When the Declaration of Independence was signed, it was a big step forward. Many brave men signed the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration was signed July 4, 1776. In the years of war that followed, it was especially dangerous for those who signed the Declaration because having their names on that document was essentially treason against Great Britain.
