MT. PLEASANT—The North Sanpete Veterans Memorial, the culmination of an exceptional volunteer effort, was dedicated last Saturday, July 4th in front of a crowd of about 500, who broke into cheers when the keynote speaker, Gov. Spencer Cox, declared that “America is still the greatest country in the history of the world.”
EPHRAIM—The Ephraim City Council has approved a temporary six-month moratorium on most new multifamily and some single-family development as officials work to overhaul development regulations they say no longer fit trends in the city. The ordinance passed unanimously at the regular city council meeting on July 1.
EPHRAIM—Demolition of Greenwood Hall, a married student housing facility, was demolished last week, completing clearance of the site for a new, $41 million social science building at Snow College.
MANTI—The Sanpete County Commission unanimously certified the results of the June 23 Republican primary election during its July 7 meeting, officially confirming victories for AJ Mower in the County Commission Seat A race and Linda Hanks in the State School Board District 14 contest.
MANTI—America occupies a central role in God’s plan and remains under a sacred covenant, author and speaker Rod Meldrum told attendees during a July 7 presentation at the Manti Assembly Hall as part of the Manti Community Prep lecture series.
STERLING—Anglers at Palisade Reservoir will be allowed to keep an unlimited number of fish through Oct. 1 as the reservoir will be drained this summer for dam maintenance and repairs.

MANTI—The Sanpete County Commission held a public hearing Tuesday, June 30, on a proposed resolution that would allow voters to decide in November whether to approve a 1% sales and use tax to help fund first responders (including police, fire and EMTs) and the countywide 911 dispatch center.
WALES—An unexpected display of patriotism was revealed over the weekend as the American Flag was strung across Wales Canyon. The flag, unfurled in celebration of Independence Day, surprised even city officials but was a welcome sight for all.
FOUNTAIN GREEN—Fountain Green boasts new community pickleball courts and the replacement of a bridge at the Fountain Green City cemetery.
MANTI—William Hackwell Funk, known as Bill, recently celebrated his 93rd birthday on June 10 and has reflected on a lifetime shaped by the legacy of his grandfathers.
SANPETE COUNTY—This Fourth of July will include traditional celebrations in Mt. Pleasant, Gunnison, Manti and Moroni.
MT. PLEASANT—The most dramatic America 250 and July Fourth event in Sanpete County this year is expected to be the dedication of the North Sanpete Veterans Memorial Saturday at 3 p.m. at 750 S. State.
