Organized by Kayden Thomas, the fundraiser aims to purchase sound equipment, lighting and instruments to support free weekly performances and open mic nights for youth throughout Sanpete Valley.

Kayden Thomas of Ephraim organized a GoFundMe campaign titled “Help Build a Music Scene for Sanpete Youth” on Oct. 12 to raise money for sound equipment, lighting and instruments needed to support the proposed events.

The studio hopes to establish Thursday evening performances, including open mic nights and other live music opportunities, in communities throughout Sanpete Valley. Organizers want to make the events accessible to young musicians regardless of whether they own instruments or performance equipment.

According to the fundraising campaign, the project aims to give young performers more opportunities to build confidence, improve their abilities and experience the satisfaction of performing for an audience.

The campaign emphasizes the value of learning through practice, overcoming challenges and receiving recognition for hard work. Thomas hopes to make those experiences available to local youth on a regular basis.

Funds raised through the campaign would purchase a modest live sound system, stage lighting, musical instruments and amplifiers. Organizers hope the equipment will allow musicians to participate without needing to provide everything themselves.

The proposed performances would take place in different Sanpete Valley communities rather than at a single permanent location, with the goal of reaching more young people throughout the county.

The studio is also seeking community participation beyond financial donations. Its fundraising appeal invites individuals and organizations to provide venues, local businesses to sponsor performances and food truck operators to participate in events. Musicians and other residents interested in supporting the project are also encouraged to get involved.

The fundraising campaign does not specify when the weekly performances will begin or identify confirmed venues.

Thomas hopes the effort will help establish a continuing local music scene where young performers can practice their skills, gain experience on stage and connect with other musicians.
