EPHRAIM—The Lady Badgers softball team played a home game against the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans in a double header Friday and Saturday, March 4-5.  The Badgers completed a four-game sweep of CNCC by a combined score of 58-20. The Badgers play double headers on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the rest of the softball season.

On Friday, Snow won the first game, 14-4, with sophomore Kynlee Hoggan pitching, freshman Kaylee Lyman (2 RBIs) catching and strong hitting throughout the lineup.

During the second game on Friday, Snow fell behind early but rallied to tie the game 7-7 by the end of the third inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Snow loaded the bases and then freshman Deshani Purcell stepped to the plate.

With a 0-2 count, Purcell hit a home run across center field into the second row of cars, scoring Kynlee Hoggan, Paige Rydalch and Jaci Shumway to put Snow up 11-7. The final score after five innings, the game called early due to the run rule, was 18-7.

Savannah Lindsay
Assistant Coach

The Lady Badgers out-hit the Spartans again on Saturday, winning the first game 15-4. In the second game, a clutch triple by sophomore Stormie Gee and a stellar diving, catch and throw-out by sophomore centerfielder Sage Bowers sealed the Badger victory at 11-5.

Kynlee Hoggan recorded two wins over the weekend and hit .667 batting average, including one home run, one triple, four doubles and 7 RBIs, as well as scoring 9 runs. Freshman pitcher Mackenzie Evans recorded one win and one save over the weekend.

Purcell led the team with 9 RBIs, followed by Hoggan and freshman Stalee Hadley, each with 6.   Hadley finished the weekend with a .583 batting average, adding to freshman Katie Larsen’s .714 and Purcell’s .615 for a strong offensive outing over two days.

The top run scorers for the Badgers this weekend were Hoggan, freshman Paige Rydalch (8), Hadley (7), Purcell (7) and freshman Jaci Shumway (7). Sophomore Madi Lackey and freshman Aubrey Morrow also added homeruns to the offensive effort and scored 6 and 4 runs respectively.

Hadley and Larsen added a combined 6 stolen bases as the Badgers put up strong offensive numbers over the four games.

The Badgers are led by new head coach Chad Carpenter and new assistant coach Savannah Lindsey that joined the team this school year. Their record prior to this weekend was 3-9, playing against College of Southern Idaho, Utah State University Eastern, and College of Southern Nevada at away games.

The Badgers have upcoming home stands on April 8-9, April 15-16, April 22-23 and May 6-7.  All games are on Friday and Saturdays. Friday games start at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., and Saturday games begin at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.

Games are held at the Snow College Sports Complex at 201 North 100 East in Ephraim.
