SPRING CITY— The Spring City Council took up the issues of long-term use of trailers as residences and unsightly storage containers at its meeting last Thursday, June 2.
Council members said RV-style trailers are sometimes hooking up to city power and water. Some of the trailers are on property owned by the resident, but it is not confirmed that all of them are.
Council members discussed the fact because of Spring City’s lot-size requirement of 1.1 acre, there is a shortage of property eligible for building.
The current ordinance states that someone is allowed to live in a temporary trailer on his or her own property for up to one year if building a house or permanent living space.
No motions were made, but the issue is open for public discussion.
On another matter, the council learned that Dave Oxman, Mt. Pleasant City treasurer, who has been brought on as a temporary consultant, has been reviewing city finances.
At Oxman’s recommendation, the city council voted to pay off a $15,000 balance on sewer bonds out of money sitting in the sewer fund.
In an interview a few days after the meeting, Oxman said the sewer fund had more than enough cash to pay off the bond, which was scheduled to run for another five years. “It didn’t make sense to continue paying interest,” he said.
The council approved routine items such as the Fire Protection Agreement and Vehicle Extrication Agreement. Both are these are agreements with Sanpete County to help out surrounding areas if necessary.
Jim Pemberton of the Citizen Corps announced the town purchased emergency broadcast equipment. The radios purchased were placed in the fire station. The frequency is 92.3 FM and is available on any FM radio. Citizens will be able to hear the broadcast system from any radio up to a mile and a half away.
Mayor Chris Anderson announced that Spring City will be celebrating the summer with various activities. There will be concerts, a car show, competitions, artist tours and a Pioneer Day celebration. More details will be available at a later date.
