FAIRVIEW—Another Pioneer Day celebration has come and gone in Fairview with several trophies and awards going home with participants.

The Fairview Demolition Derby was a “HIT” this year with the first roll over happening with the first thirty seconds of the heat. The driver was okay, and the derby went on the rest of the evening, wrapping up Fairview City Pioneer Day Celebration.

City councilman Casey Anderson said that he was overall happy with everything from the long week of activities.

“It is hard to narrow it right down to the best thing from the fireman’s breakfast to the corn hole tournament, to lace days, to the derby, it was just a great week,” he said.

He said that all the feedback he has gotten has been positive. He has heard this was one of the nicest celebrations Fairview has had.

The derby was one of the best there has been. Anderson said that the dirt must have been just right because cars weren’t getting stuck, they were able to get just enough traction to get moving and make things happen.

“The first flip over was in the first 30 seconds of the first heat, and it wasn’t the only one that happened,” he said.

Probably the most popular heat of the evening was the exhibition heat which included cars driven by Chief of Police Steve Grey, County Sheriff Jared Buchanan, Mayor Brad Welch, past derby champion Brad Miner and two lucky raffle winners Chris Whitman and Jared Livingston.

Raffle tickets were sold for several weeks prior to the derby for a chance to drive one of two derby cars that were built and donated by Fairview City and Wild Rose Recycling. The money raised went to the Sanpete Kindness foundation.

“Brad Welch is behind the whole project,” Linda Chris- tiansen, Sanpete Kindness founder said.

He proposed the derby raffle to help her foundation raise money for future projects. As of Monday, Christiansen said Welch had told her the total was up to $4110 raised, and that includes the top three in the exhibition heat donating their prize money as well.
