MANTI—Amy Willden has sealed the deal on four more years as Sanpete County Treasurer.

Willden, a Republican who lives in Spring City, got 6,000 votes (based on unofficial returns Tuesday night) to defeat Independent American candidate Whitney Allred, also of Spring City, by approximately 69 to 31 percent.

Willden was appointed county treasurer during a Republican caucus last December after the elected treasurer resigned from his position. Now that she has been elected by popular vote, she will serve the remaining four years of the previously-elected treasurer’s term.

“One of my biggest concerns is that the Treasurer’s Office function efficiently and that we are as helpful as possible to Sanpete citizens,” Willden said. “It has been a goal of mine since I took office. I will continue to work and improve on that goal.”

Willden’s victory came despite an incident in which scammers attempted to bilk the county out more than $30,000. Three other local governments in Utah also fell prey to the scam. As of election day, officials reported that the county had recovered all of the lost funds.
