MT. PLEASANT—Although the situation wasn’t hopeless, the Lady Hawks played without two of their best offensive performers last week.
The North Sanpete girls’ basketball team lost two games last week, falling hard against Union, 68-39, last Tuesday before losing to Juab on the road, 53-42, last Thursday. Against the Wasps, the Lady Hawks were without senior Eryn Briggs, their top perimeter shooter, and junior Kortley Cook, their second-leading scorer.
North Sanpete’s overall record moved to 3-11, and they are still looking for their first region victory.
Union simply proved to be too much for North Sanpete after the first eight minutes had passed. The Cougars blasted the Lady Hawks by a 42-16 margin over the second and third quarters.
Junior Tylee Henrie led the Hawks in scoring, while Briggs hit two 3-pointers.
Despite a closer game, North Sanpete was outscored in every quarter by the rival Wasps as Juab slowly created distance.
Henrie again led North Sanpete in scoring, this time with 17 points. Down multiple players, viewers got their first on-court glimpse of freshman Sadie Job, who filled in and finished with four points.
The Lady Hawks will return home to take on Delta this Tuesday. They’ll then be on the road to face Manti next Tuesday.
