Pig races, parade and more highlight Mayfield Pioneer Day

MAYFIELD-The Mayfield Town Council received an update on the town’s annual Pioneer Day celebration during its July 8 meeting. Mayfield Lions Club President John Glauser outlined the schedule for the July 24 event, which is organized by the Lions Club.

The celebration will begin with a 5K fun run at 7 a.m. A car show at Mayfield Park and a pickleball tournament, organized by Nate Murray, will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parade participants should line up at 9 a.m., with the parade beginning at 10 a.m. Those interested in participating in the parade should contact Krista at Town Hall for additional information.

Live music, food trucks and artisan vendors will open at 11 a.m., along with carnival-style activities including bounce houses and bingo. The annual fundraising auction is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., followed by a new ping pong ball drop at 1:30 p.m. organized by Parker Dyreng, with prizes awarded to participants holding winning balls.

The annual pig races for youth will begin at 2 p.m., followed by the traditional duck races to conclude the day’s festivities. Residents are encouraged to attend and celebrate the community’s Pioneer Day traditions.

Historic Mayfield-Ferron baseball tradition returns Aug. 1

The town also announced the revival of the Mayfield vs. Ferron Community Potluck Baseball Game, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1, at 12 Mile Flats. The event revives a longtime tradition in which residents of Mayfield and Ferron gathered for a day of baseball, food and community fellowship.

Mayfield Mayor Travis Good said the event is intended to honor the communities’ shared heritage. He contacted Ferron officials to help organize the celebration. Residents are invited to bring a potluck dish, baseball or kickball equipment and join the festivities beginning at 11 a.m. Aug. 1 at 12 Mile Flats.
