SANPETE COUNTY—With the new school year approaching, the Utah Department of Transportation is upgrading reduced-speed school zones in Ephraim, Manti and Gunnison to improve safety for students and pedestrians.

The work includes installing overhead flashing pedestrian beacon systems with new signal poles at 400 North Main Street and on both sides of 100 South Main in Manti and 100 South Main Street in Gunnison and 400 South US89 in Ephraim. The projects also will require pavement striping changes and modifications to some pedestrian ramps.

UDOT said the work may take longer to complete because of the additional improvements.

The department also maintains online resources aimed at helping communities identify, develop and promote safe, accessible routes for students traveling to and from school. Visit saferoutes.utah.gov for more information.
