Mayfield City Council hears election report, names new zoning administrator

MAYFIELD—The Mayfield Town Council welcomed Sanpete County Clerk Linda Christiansen to its monthly meeting Aug. 12 at Mayfield City Hall, where she discussed recent elections and recognized the county’s election staff and volunteers.

Christiansen announced that Sanpete County was one of five Utah counties to receive the Excellence in Elections Award, praising election workers for helping maintain secure and efficient elections. She specifically recognized Mayfield volunteer Amanda Bennett for her work.

Christiansen said about 95% of Sanpete County voters use ballot drop boxes or vote by mail. While in-person voting remains an option, she said it requires additional staffing and is less efficient.

She also expressed concern about reports questioning the security of Utah’s mail-in voting system and noted that only 34% of registered Sanpete County Republicans voted in the most recent local election.

The council also appointed David Whitlock as Mayfield’s new zoning administrator. Whitlock will succeed former Mayor Steve Anderson, who will continue serving the town in an advisory role.
