Fairview woman launches app connecting workers with people needing help

FAIRVIEW—A Fairview woman has developed a mobile app designed to connect people who need help with everyday household tasks with others looking to earn extra income.

Geena Schaugaard, founder of Need It Today, said she created the app after recognizing two challenges facing families: the rising cost of living and the difficulty of finding help with routine jobs.

The app allows customers to post jobs such as yard work, cleaning, moving and other household projects while setting their own prices. Workers can browse available jobs and choose opportunities that fit their skills and schedules.

Schaugaard said her inspiration came partly from her experience trying to help her mother, who lives about an hour away.

“My mom sometimes needs help, and I live about an hour away from her. I can’t always get up there when she needs something done,” she said.

She began considering how to connect people needing assistance with others in their communities looking for additional income.

“I didn’t set out to become a tech entrepreneur, but I saw a need in our communities and couldn’t stop thinking about how I might be able to help,” she said.

Developing the app required Schaugaard to learn about software development, business registration, payment processing and other aspects of launching a business.

Need It Today is free to download, with no subscription fees. The company retains a 10 percent fee from completed jobs, while workers receive the remaining 90 percent.

Schaugaard said the app is available on Google Play, and she has submitted an iPhone version to Apple for review.

As of Oct. 23, the platform had approximately 30 registered users. Schaugaard hopes to expand its reach throughout Utah, particularly in Sanpete County and the Salt Lake Valley.

“My goal isn’t just to build an app. It’s to build something useful that can make a difference in people’s everyday lives,” she said.
