Black Canyon Fire area reopens after reaching full containment

SPRING CITY—The Black Canyon Fire area on the Manti-La Sal National Forest reopened to the public on Sept. 11 after the fire reached 100% containment.

The reopening rescinded the previous closure order for the Ferron Ranger District, with one exception, as Black Canyon Road (Forest Service Road 2467) remains closed through Sept. 30 while crews conducted suppression repair work.

According to a news release, forest officials warn visitors that post-fire hazards remain in burned areas, including unstable terrain, falling trees, loose soil, rolling debris and weakened root systems.

Other areas of the Ferron Ranger District remain open, although visitors are advised to expect ongoing repair work and heavy machinery, particularly along Lowry Water Road.
