GUNNISON—After four straight losses, the Bulldogs were hankering for some good vibes, and they got them, courtesy of North Summit.

Gunnison baseball broke their late-season losing streak by scoring 15 runs each in consecutive games against the Braves, beating them on the road, 15-0 and 15-1, in a doubleheader last Friday to finish 6-6 in the 2A East region with two more non-region games on the schedule. The Bulldogs had not seen a win in nearly three weeks prior to the matchup.

The first game was a big one for junior Kyler Cox, who belted a 3-RBI home run. Junior Easton Newman led the team in RBI with four, while also pitching four strikeouts and only one allowed hit in four innings. It was Gunnison’s first shutout win of the season.

Stats were not posted for the second game, but Gunnison got off to a great start with six runs in the first inning and never looked back.

To finish out the regular season, the Bulldogs will prepare for the playoffs with two games against 3A opponents, first facing Manti at home on Monday, then traveling to Juab on Tuesday before the bracket is finally revealed.
