Team starts season 0-7, ends play with region title

MANTI—The Lady Templars are the 2022 Region 14 champions.

Manti softball laid hold on the region title and received the trophy from UHSAA representatives during a convincing win over Union last week, capping off what is now an 11-game winning streak after they began the season 0-7.

The Lady Templars prevailed over Juab on Monday last week, 11-1, then posted consecutive shutout wins, beating 6A Taylorsville, 12-0, on Wednesday and Union, 15-0, on Friday.

Manti moved to an overall record of 16-9 with a perfect 7-0 record in region play. They were the only team in Region 14 to finish with an overall winning record.

Manti Lady softball team takes region title. Back (L-R): Ashley Aguado, Anniston Stevens, Madison Scottorn, Alivya Osborn, Maquette Hansen, Rylee Jarvis, Ashley Rasmussen, Hadden Taylor, Tiffany Hermansen, Kathrine Crouch, Adalee Olson, Mara Thompson, Audilyn Anderson, HayLee Daniels, Front (L-R): Shyanne Schoppe, Hannah Daniels, Nakiah Payne, Raubie Johnson, Elsey Olson, Cecily Alder, Ashlee Johnson, Avery Umbrell, Markell Wilson and Rylee Miller.

Senior Tiffany Hermansen blasted away two home runs in the game against Juab, the second time she has hit multiple home runs in a game this season after she did it two games ago against Delta. Hermansen has nearly as many home runs (10) on the year as strikeouts (11) and is second in 3A and eighth in Utah in home runs total. She and junior Madison Scottorn each scored three RBI to lead the team.

The Lady Templars took a road trip and took care of business against Taylorsville, posting their second straight shutout win over the 6A squad after a 10-0 win in 2021. The hitting clinic from before went for another episode as Hermansen, senior Rylee Jarvis and junior Alivya Osborn all hit home runs. Jarvis led the team in RBI with four. Scottorn stole a base three times. Hermansen pitched five strikeouts and allowed only three hits.

Against Union, Manti continued to roll forth uninhibited, scoring eight runs in the fourth inning to end the game early. Jarvis hit another home run and led the team with four RBI.

Hermansen had a spectacular day at the mound, pitching a no-hitter with five strikeouts.

The Lady Templars had a non-region matchup with 5A Salem Hills on Monday. They’ll finish out the regular season with a game against Union on Wednesday and then await playoff seeding.
