EPHRAIM—Ephraim Police Department Sgt. Justin Aagard has retired after 20 years of active law enforcement service in Sanpete County.
The department announced his retirement this past week, noting that his final day, March 31, marked the close of his two-decade career serving communities across the county.

According to information released by the department, Aagard served with the Ephraim Police Department beginning in 2018. Before coming to Ephraim, he served as Moroni’s police chief from 2014 to 2018 and with the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy. Aagard was promoted to patrol sergeant with EPD in July 2024.

During a retirement celebration held by the department, Aagard was recognized by fellow officers and presented with a commemorative award honoring his years of service.

“I first met Sgt. Aagard in 2013. Ironically, he was my supervisor when I worked for the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office and played a major role in shaping my understanding of law enforcement,” EPD Chief Colby Zeeman said. “Justin has always been a pillar of the law enforcement community in Sanpete County. Before joining Ephraim City Police, he served as chief of police for Moroni City, and I still remember when he called me in 2018 to ask about the police officer position in Ephraim. It was a no-brainer to bring him onto our team. Justin will be deeply missed, but we are happy for him and wish him the very best in his retirement.”

In a social media statement, Zeeman described Aagard as a dedicated professional throughout his career and noted his commitment to the community and department.

“Yesterday was a bittersweet day at Ephraim Police Department as we said goodbye to Sgt. Justin Aagard, who officially retired after 20 years of dedicated service,” the post stated.

The department also cited Aagard’s role in public safety efforts and his service to the Ephraim community during his tenure.
