Spring City concert series to close with student performers on Friday, April 10

SPRING CITY—The third and final concert in this year’s Spring City Concert Series is scheduled for Friday, April 10, at 7 p.m. in the ballroom of the Spring City Community Center, 45 S. 100 East.
Organizers said the program will feature three high school student performers: Annie Zhao and Kevin Chen of Wasatch Academy and Annabelle Friar of North Sanpete High School.
Zhao, a senior at Wasatch Academy, will perform on the zhudi, a traditional Chinese bamboo flute. Organizers said she has earned multiple gold medals with perfect scores at the UHSAA State Solo & Ensemble Competition and received a Gold Award from the International Chinese Arts Festival. They also said she recently won both Gold Prize and Grand Prize in Wasatch Academy’s Jensen Gill Performing Arts Competition for her zhudi performance.
Organizers said Zhao also has been recognized for academic achievement in studio arts, is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as head of international students in student council. They said she uses her music to share traditional Chinese artistry with new audiences.
Chen, a sophomore at Wasatch Academy, is a pianist from China. Organizers described him as a strong academic student who also participates in track and soccer. Friar, a senior at North Sanpete High School, will also perform on piano. She is from Spring City and plans to continue her education at Snow College.
The concert series is co-sponsored by Spring City Corporation and is intended to raise money to maintain the grand piano donated to Spring City by the Bastien Foundation. The event is open to the public.
