Pin and Jordann Vaha of Manti welcome third chirld

MT. PLEASANT–Sanpete Valley Hospital welcomed the hospital’s first baby of the new year on Monday, Jan. 3 at 7:26 a.m.

Amelia Lose Uasila’a Vaha, a baby girl weighing seven pounds eight ounces and measuring 18 inches long, was born to Jordann and Pin Vaha of Manti.

Pin and Jordann Vaha of Manti, with their new little girl, Amelia Lose Uasila’a Vaha, the first baby born in 2022 at the Sanpete Valley Hospital.

“It was fun for us to have the New Year’s baby,” said Jordann, “but we certainly weren’t planning on that.”

Dr. Eric Jones was the delivering physician and reports that mother and baby are doing well.

Amelia will be joining her two-year-old big brother Semisi Luke and seven-year-old big sister, Kennedy Anamanu.

Jordann shared the story of their decision to have this baby be a “surprise” and not find out the gender until after the baby was born. While visiting with big sister Kennedy, Jordann recounts that “she said she didn’t need another brother, the one she has is perfect – so she wanted a sister. If it was a brother, they could sell him to grandma for $2.”

So, Kennedy is thrilled to have Amelia as part of the family. Brother Semisi is probably thrilled, too.

As the first baby of the year at Sanpete Valley Hospital, Amelia and her parents have been presented with gifts donated by the hospital.

Father Pin explained that the family last name changes every generation in Tonga, so their full last names are Uasila’a Vana. Pin explained that the family last name changes every generation in Tonga, so their full last names are Uasila’a Vana.  Amelia’s middle name “Lose” means “Rose” in English, for Pin’s great-great-grandmother.

Pin and Jordann have lived in Manti six years, and before that they lived in Ephraim. They met at a young single adult dance in Ogden, and they married in 2013.

Jordann works at Manti High School and Pin works at Walmart.
