GUNNISON — The Gunnison Valley Lady Bulldogs didn’t end their basketball season on a high note, but they got a glimpse of something impressive as they prepare for the postseason.

Gunnison Valley lost its final game of the regular season in a 56-37 setback against North Summit on Tuesday, Feb. 8. The Lady Bulldogs finish the regular season at 4-15 overall and went completely winless in Region 16. It marked the fewest wins in a season for the Lady Bulldogs since the 2015-16 season when they went 1-19. It was also the last time they were winless in region play.

Despite the loss, senior Gracey Mickelson had an outstanding night as she drained five 3-pointers to lead the team with 15 points. Senior Raven Pickett backed her up with 11 points. Though rebound numbers were not published for this game, Picket officially finishes second in rebounding rate in 2A at 9.3 per game, according to Deseret News statistics.

The Lady Bulldogs will be on the road to open the first round of the 2A state tournament. Gunnison Valley will play No. 17 Freedom Preparatory Academy on Tuesday. The winner of that that game will play at top-seeded Beaver the following Friday.
