Hawk boys fall to Carbon, Emery in back-to-back region losses

MT. PLEASANT — The North Sanpete boys basketball team dropped two games last week, falling 77–59 to Carbon on Wednesday, Jan. 14, before suffering a 67–43 road loss at Emery on Friday, Jan. 16.
Against Carbon, North Sanpete stayed competitive offensively but could not keep pace defensively as the Dinos pulled away for an 18-point win. Hudson Smith led the Hawks with a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The loss marked North Sanpete’s third straight defeat and dropped the Hawks to 7–10 on the season at that point.
Carbon received balanced scoring, led by Carter Warburton’s 16 points, while Kyler Orth added 10 points and five rebounds to help secure the road victory.
North Sanpete returned to the court two days later in Castle Dale but struggled to generate consistent offense in a 67–43 loss to Emery. The Hawks fell behind early, trailing 18–7 after the first quarter and 40–15 at halftime. North Sanpete outscored Emery 19–8 in the fourth quarter, but the early deficit proved too large to overcome.
Milo Hendry led the Hawks with 10 points, while Bryce Swapp added five. North Sanpete shot 36 percent from the field and made just two three-pointers on 20 attempts. Emery shot 52 percent overall and placed multiple players in double figures to maintain control throughout the game.
The two losses capped a difficult stretch for the Hawks as they looked to regain momentum heading into the next phase of region play.
