Fairview family home complete loss after blaze

FAIRVIEW — A house fire destroyed the home of Jay and Jane Frandsen earlier this month, leaving the long-time Fairview residents with nothing and prompting a rapid community response to help them rebuild.
The fire resulted in a total loss of the home, according to a fundraiser organized by Zak Nyberg, who said the couple was able to recover very little from the structure. On top of that, the Frandsens were unable to get the losses covered by insurance.
Nyberg identified Jay Frandsen as a fellow member of the Sanpete Search and Rescue and described both Jay and Jane as active members of the community.
That fellowship led Nyberg to launch the GoFundMe campaign, which, at press time, had raised nearly $15,000.
“Jay and Jane are overwhelmed by the love and support so far,” Nyberg wrote in a fundraiser update. “They never expected a dime from anyone and can’t believe people care so much.
“It’s going to take a full rebuild, which means a lot more money,” Nyberg wrote. “Please share this on your social channels and encourage others to do the same.”
Community members responded quickly through social media, sharing donation links, offering material help and spreading information about the fundraiser. Commenters confirmed that both Jay and Jane Frandsen escaped the fire without physical injuries and expressed relief that no one was hurt.
Some offered clothing, household items and assistance beyond financial donations. Several commenters encouraged wider sharing of the fundraiser to increase its reach, while others asked about alternative ways to donate, including checks and digital payment options. Nyberg said he is working on a separate effort to gather tools and skills needed for rebuilding, saying meeting the Frandsen’s need would require a full community effort.
