MANTI—If you are not registered to vote and are willing to affiliate with the Republican Party, you can still register and participate in the primary election on June 28.
The deadline to register is June 17. You can register online at vote.utah.gov or in person at the county clerk’s office in the county courthouse in Manti. The Republican Party is the only party with races on the Sanpete County primary election ballot this year.
Since the Republican Party only allows registered Republicans to participate in its primary, only registered Republicans will receive a ballot from the county clerk’s office.
The deadline to change party affiliation was on March 31. Registered voters interested in changing their affiliation still can; however, they will not be sent a primary ballot.
“Independents” who are not affiliated with a party can still affiliate, but much like changing affiliations, they will not receive a primary ballot.
Utah is a predominantly Republican state, with most of the state’s primary elections solely Republican. Often, the winner of the Republican primary takes the office in the general election.
The U.S. Senate candidates on the primary ballot are Becky Edwards, Ally Isom and Mike Lee. The U.S. House District 4 candidates, who, if elected, would represent Sanpete County in Congress, are Burgess Owens and Jake Hunsaker. The county commission Seat A candidates are Brandon Armstrong and Scott Bartholomew. The county Commission Seat B candidates are Vivian Kunz, Scott Collard and Mike Bennett.
The general election is on Nov 8. For that election, voters are eligible to register until the day of the election. In the general election, all registered voters, regardless of party affiliation, will receive the same ballot.
